CSMIA in Mumbai reports 108% recovery in passenger traffic in August 2023, with a significant increase in international travellers.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has witnessed a consistent rise in passenger traffic in August 2023, demonstrating its importance as a key node in India's aviation network. The airport achieved an impressive 108 per cent recovery in passenger numbers compared to August 2019, before the pandemic, highlighting its expanding connectivity and reliable infrastructure.

In August 2023, CSMIA registered a total passenger traffic of more than 4.32 million, indicating a substantial 32 per cent increase compared to August 2022 when it accommodated 3.2 million passengers. International travellers contributed significantly to this growth, with a robust 33 per cent increase, amounting to over 1.1 million passengers compared to the same period the previous year.

CSMIA recorded a significant rise in passenger traffic during the Independence Day weekend in August. The airport handled 150,257 passengers on August 11 and 150,907 passengers on August 12, which was 8.4 per cent higher than the average daily passenger count of August 2023 (139,661).

The domestic market was dominated by IndiGo with a 48 per cent share, followed by Air India with 18 per cent and Vistara with 17 per cent. The international market was also led by IndiGo with a 22 per cent share, followed by Air India with 14 per cent and Vistara with 10 per cent. IndiGo added two new destinations to its network from CSMIA in August, namely Nairobi and Jakarta, providing passengers with more travel options and convenience.

CSMIA also saw a remarkable growth of 6 per cent in cargo tonnage, including a 3 per cent increase in domestic cargo tonnage and an 8 per cent increase in international cargo tonnage in August 2023.
