The state government of Rajasthan has decided to unlock the hidden gems of tourism in the state by developing two new tourism sites in each district. The sites, which are located in districts such as Alwar, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Bharatpur, Banswara, Dausa, Dungarpur, Jodhpur, Jhalawar, Jalore, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Nagaur, Sirohi, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, will cost 70.06 crore to develop. The official said that this will enhance the tourism diversity of the state, which has a variety of attractions from desert to hill station. “We have identified two tourism destinations in each district and started the development work through the Tourism Development Fund,” said Gayatri Rathore, principal secretary of tourism. She added that the new tourism places will boost the tourism industry and its benefits across the state.
Rashmi Sharma, director of the tourism department, said that the department is working with other government departments such as forest, archaeology and Public Works Department to develop the tourism sites. “There are many more sites in Rajasthan that have great potential to become tourist attractions besides the forts and palaces,” she said. Another official said that the state has witnessed a record influx of tourists during the long weekends and New Year, especially in Jaipur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer, which has created a need for developing more facilities for tourists. Gaurav Bhatt, a tourist guide, said that he was happy to see more tourists coming to Rajasthan and exploring its rich culture and heritage.
Udaipur saw an unprecedented increase in the number of visitors in August. The city's natural beauty and tranquil lakes attracted tourists from all over the world, said Shikha Saxena, Deputy Director of the tourism department in Udaipur. She said Udaipur remained a popular destination throughout the year. "In January, we had 1,80,000 domestic tourists and 14,215 foreign guests. In the monsoon season, we had 1,60,567 tourists, of which 1,51,300 were domestic and 9,267 were foreign," she said.
